What Counts as Trauma?

People often dismiss traumatic experiences as normal. Especially when the trauma has become a regular part of their lives. Some trauma is the outcome of violent incidents. People may also experience relationship / attachment trauma which is more chronic and usually starts in early life. This type of trauma makes it very difficult to build secure relationships with others.

Trauma is an experience that fragments your world and takes away your sense of safety. It leaves you feeling vulnerable, it shatters your belief that life is meaningful and undermines your positive sense of self as well as your belief in the goodness of others. Trauma makes it very difficult to experience positive emotions.
